True friendships die hard

7 Nov

My friend Ionela and I go way back… We’ve known each other since kindergarden and I distinctly remember her as my pillar and one of my very best friends through thick and thin. She was always there for me when I needed her and we shared a lot of things together: first loves, birthday parties, common friends, schools and other less pleasant experiences that only brought us closer together.

But when I left home to move to Madrid we obviously parted ways, although we always kept in touch and saw each other every once in a while when we got the chance to visit each other. Later on, we both got married and she now has a precious little boy that I absolutely adore.

The thing is that last night we had a conversation that changed my perception of who I thought I had been in the past and I suddenly realized that I was getting to know myself  through her eyes… What a wonderful experience it was! How many things I learned about myself that I didn’t even know where there…

Did you ever get the chance to have a friend tell you how they saw you? You will never need a soul mirror again, because a friend is the deepest expression of self that can be. Try it. You might find interesting things about that someone you call “yourself”.

And since this post is dedicated to my friend, here is a nice picture of us together this past summer when I went home for holidays. I can’t wait to have this picture taken again of us in 20 years from now…

Enjoy!

When saying good-bye is not that easy

5 Nov

This post is dedicated to my friend Andrea M. who is incredibly fortunate to be moving to London in just a few days. This is for you darling!

“Why can’t we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together?  I guess that wouldn’t work.  Someone would leave.  Someone always leaves.  Then we would have to say good-bye.  I hate good-byes.  I know what I need.  I need more hellos.”  ~Charles M. Schulz
